Brambledown is one of our most technically challenging and aesthetically pleasing projects to date. The story of the staircase and its inspiration, and how we created a complex design from a photo can be found at our Blog. The technical details of this superb marriage of engineering and craftsmanship are outlined below.

This stunning design is a composition of two bespoke helical staircases with an art deco style wrought iron balustrade, oak treads and a continuous walnut handrail.

The tread material was imported from a German company, Schotten, to match newly-laid baked oak flooring. Strings and risers are made out of solid beech, which structurally supports the stairs and has a very tight grain, making it a excellent timber base for a smooth factory finish in white paint. The three-dimensionally curved wrought iron balustrade is handcrafted, and is one of the most ambitious such projects that Kevala Stairs has created to date.
